Floyd Urban Wood Tour

Sunday, February 9th, 8:30 am - 1:30 pm

Description

All trees, & all parts of trees, can have value & purpose beyond the end of their biological lives. Join the Virginia Department of Forestry & Virginia Project Learning Tree to see & learn how entrepreneurs are using wood to make products that grow the local economy, continue carbon storage & honor the tree's life.

10-15 participants

Transportation information

We will travel from & return to the Hotel Roanoke in a 12-passenger van, a mini-van & an Explorer. Please note that this is a windy, mountainous route. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider a preventative, over-the-counter medicine, ginger or peppermint.  

Agenda

8:15 AM: Meet in the lobby of the Hotel Roanoke

8:30 AM (sharp): Depart Hotel Roanoke

9:30 AM: Arrive Southwest Virginia BioChar

10:30 AM: Arrive at Phoenix Hardwoods Workshop or retail (if retail, include time downtown)

11:30 AM: Lunch at American Pie Restaurant

12:30 PM: Depart for Roanoke 

1:30PM: Return VAEE conference

Learning hours

During this five-hour excursion, those participants wishing to quantify continuing education credits can expect four learning hours (CEUs). Information will be delivered orally on the trip to Floyd but no written work is expected (see the above note about motion sickness). 

Cost 

The cost is $25 per person which covers tour & transportation & includes lunch at the American Pie Restaurant in Floyd.
