π Description: The Sustained Outdoor Learning program offers upper-elementary students immersive, hands-on experiences exploring ecological phenomena using the 5E instructional model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate). Each weeklong camp is led by certified elementary teacher and environmental educator Meredith McCool, and uses local park settings to spark curiosity, critical thinking, and environmental stewardship. Weβre seeking interns to support instruction and engage directly with students. This is a great opportunity for those interested in outdoor education, environmental science, or classroom teaching. Interns will gain real-world experience planning and supporting lessons, managing groups, and leading outdoor exploration.

Lake Front Park Naturalist / Facility Attendant IIβ Lake Accotink Park

π Description: Under the supervision of the Park Manager, plan, design and present interpretive programs in natural and cultural history, geocaching, orienteering, outdoor recreation, kayaking, fishing and science topics for age groups ranging from preschool to adults. Groups can include school groups, scout groups, camps, general public, thematic class series, birthday parties, events, and off-site and special request programs. Assist operations staff with park events. Assist in assessing the siteβs natural resources with other lakefront staff, park manager, and assistant naturalist. Assist Camp Director and play a vital role in our summer camps. Provide operational support to all programs. Is the site coordinator for programs, classes, events, and camps. Plans, develop, trains staff for summer camps and loads classes for advertising through data load. Program administration includes running roasters, cancelling classes, monitoring program supplies and budget. Occasional Manager on Duty shifts will be required but kept to a minimum.
